...the food adventures continue...

Here at the Baia di Trentova B&B, dinner is offered and cooked by Mama and her son...last night we had a veritable feast !  We started with homemade fusilli pasta which Mama had just made.  Adrianna, the daughter-in-law and our hostess here speaks excellent English and was most helpful in describing everything.  She brought out the tray of fresh pasta for us to see before it was cooked...it came with a wonderful ragu sauce (made from pork), and underneath the steamiing pile of pasta was a fantastic surprise - a scoop of fresh ricotta di bufala cheese - oh yum !!  It was so creamy when mixed into the pasta !

This is the prime area for the famous mozzerella di bufala...in fact, we're going to visit a  water buffalo farm on Friday...but back to the meal....

Next came - you guessed it - buffalo filets...thinly sliced, and in a lovely balsamic/herb sauce, it tasted very much like veal.  Adrianna said that it's very good for you, but quite expensive, so most people here eat veal instead.

The vegetables were plentiful: thin slices of pumpkin and wild asparagus (picked that morning) in olive oil, broccoli and sauteed bread crumbs, endive stuffed with olives, capers, garlic and cheese, topped with toasted pine nuts (tied with a little string...too cute...).

Dessert was a chocolate brownie-type torta with a light vanilla cream sauce....

All accompanied by fresh baked bread and great local red wine, made from a grape called Aglianico.  We were, of course, the only people there !

Mama and Oreste (her son) are cooking for us again tonight...fresh fish that Oreste got this morning right off the boat from the local pescatore (fisherman)...can't wait !!

I'll keep you posted...Chris and her "my mouth is already watering" husband

  1. You guys are sure eating well!

Yes, Chris, I've received two e-mails today that have your name on them with your "homegirlchris" address (Yahoo, I think). They looked like spam, so I deleted them without clicking on the link inside the e-mail. Nasty bastards.

I've been enjoying your blog posts very much. They are well-written, funny and wonderfully descriptive. Keep 'em coming!
