Our apartment is in an old palazzo across the Tiber river in the area known as Trastevere (literally: across the Tevere or Tiber)...a busy, artsy, lively area that is full of shops and restaurants...it's about a 25 minute walk to the Vatican, and about 45 minutes to many of the sites in the center of Rome...there are buses and trams every few minutes to save wear and tear on the feet (although we prefer to walk so that we can justify more pasta and pizza !)
