We drove to Todi Saturday ...a small town about 20 minutes from Orvieto...to go to the annual antiques show. We stumbled across an exhibit of Vespas...very nice ! When we asked about the show, they assured us that there was, in fact, a car show next weekend (lost in translation...)
We stopped in a bar for a coffee and were asked if we were friends of "Doug"....hmmmm....and when asking about the antiques show, were assured that there had been an Easter pageant last night (again, lost in translation....)
We went to the tourist office and were told that there was usually an antiques show this weekend...but not this year ! Ah, Italy !!
All was not lost, however, since we had an excellent lunch in a beautiful city...polenta in a white cheese sauce with grilled pancetta, gnocchi with gorgonzola and radicchio, and pasta cacio e pepe (cheese and pepper)..
Everyone takes their kids to weekend dinners, and there was a family with twins sitting next to us (at the one of 6 tables)...the one baby (maybe a year old) was acting up, so the mother at one point handed him to me ! Just part of the family, ya know !!
